A hint
This is an old saying, so a search for bedfellows in John Bartlett's Familiar Quotations (1901) might help. It may be on your library shelf (yes, an actual book), and it's listed on the "Top 100" at Power Reporting.
If you're lucky, you'll find it attributed to someone whose works are available in full text on the Web. If not, you'll need to search.
You'll probably find that "politics makes strange bedfellows" is a modification of an older quotation. Tracking down who made that modification is doable on the Web, but it will take you a bit of luck or creative searching.
Hint: Sometimes it's found as "bed-fellows."
